Wishing Everyone a Happy Equinox — September 22, 2017

The equinox takes place on September 22, 2017 at 9pm UTC, and we wanted to take the opportunity to wish everyone a joyous, peaceful, and reflective equinox.

In the northern hemisphere, it is the time of the autumn equinox, while in the southern hemisphere it is the spring equinox, also known as the vernal equinox. Each celebration holds its own unique and special meaning.

The spring equinox marks the time of year from where day becomes longer than night; light becoming greater than darkness. The vernal equinox symbolizes the spiritual principles of selflessness, self-sacrifice, and helping others spiritually. It is a process where the inferior (low states, causes of bad actions, etc.) is sacrificed for the benefit of gaining something superior within (inner peace, wisdom, spiritual faculties, etc.).

In contrast, the autumn equinox marks the time of year where night starts to become longer than day, meaning darkness becomes greater than light for a time. The fall equinox represents the descent into the darkness of the subconscious so that egos like anger and hatred, greed, jealousy, and so on can be understood and eliminated. The autumn equinox precedes the birth of the Spiritual Son at winter solstice, thus also illustrating the principles of the the extraction of light out of darkness, of death and rebirth, and that ascent is preceded by a descent.1

Each equinox has its own set of symbols, celebrations, related practices, and points for reflection. Observing the equinoxes with an understanding of their spiritual significance can help with gaining a deeper appreciation of the higher principles conveyed through these important times of year and provide spiritual inspiration and insight for the year ahead.

There are many ways to celebrate the equinox individually or with others via ceremonies or gatherings with friends, the creation of a sacred circle or a dedicated space to mark the equinox, etc. It is also possible to find and join celebrations organized by local traditional revival groups, or to visit an ancient sacred site aligned to the equinoxes.

Below are some links for further information about the equinoxes and ways to celebrate them from a spiritual perspective:

The Spiritual Sun team would like to wish everyone a happy, serene, and inspiring equinox.

It’s become a real hub of activity and an inspiring place to visit daily to connect with the Religion of the Sun and others around the world interested in practicing it. It’s been great reading all the new content on the site, the blogs, the comments, looking at the pictures posted, and the various forum threads all to do with the Religion of the Sun. I am excited to see how things develop into the future and I am keen to be a part of it.

I wish everyone a very inspiring Equinox, where ever you are in the world.

    • Yes I feel the same Jenny, its been a great daily resource and I echo how inspiring its been to engage on the articles, blogs, comments and forums, seeing pictures of people and activities has also been awesome, gives a great sense of life to what the religion of the sun is developing into.

I look forward to moving into another quarter, until the next solar event, wishing everyone continual spiritual learning and thanks very much to the whole team for making the spirituality of the sun more accessible by the day.

    • Yes, it’s been wonderful to see the website grow and also to see the photos of people really practicing the Religion of the Sun through the ceremonies — hugely inspiring. I’m grateful those moments were captured and shared here with others.

Wishing you all a happy equinox — may you get from it what you need most 🙂

    • I agree Jenny, well said. Everyone’s strong efforts to put it all together and bring the Religion of the Sun to light and to life are inspiring in themselves and it feels like there is spiritual life here which is strengthening and inspiring to connect to. Thanks so much to the team for that.

  • It always amazes me that at these four points of the year if we tune into the spiritual meaning we can always sense higher forces at work. I hope we can all benefit from this time and move forward past any internal obstacles we may be facing.

    • I’ve observed a similar thing Jon. It’s really inspiring to connect to the cycle of the sun and the deeper meaning behind it and how it relates to our own lives. I always find each equinox or solstice has a particular ‘flavor’ or feeling to it, and brings different/unique opportunities for spiritual learning. ????

Have a wonderful equinox everyone! ????
