Learning During Sleep — An Excerpt from the Essene Gospel of Peace

The following excerpt is taken from Book 1 of the Essene Gospel of Peace, where Jesus explains the process of learning during sleep…

The Essene Gospel of Peace is an ancient manuscript attributed to the Essene community. The manuscript is said to have been kept in the secret libraries of the Vatican and a first translation of it was finally made available to the public in 1928. It is divided into four books filled with the customs, practices, and way of life of the Essene brotherhood. The following excerpt is taken from Book 1, where Jesus explains the process of learning during sleep:

“And God will send you each morning the angel of sunshine to wake you from your sleep. Therefore, obey your Heavenly Father’s summons, and lie not idle in your beds, for the angels of air and water await you already without. And labor all day long with the angels of the Earthly Mother that you may come to know them and their works ever more and more well. But when the sun is set, and your Heavenly Father sends you his most precious angel, sleep, then take your rest, and be all the night with the angel of sleep. And then will your Heavenly Father send you his unknown angels, that they may be with you the livelong night. And the Heavenly Father’s unknown angels will teach you many things concerning the kingdom of God, even as the angels that you know of the Earthly Mother, instruct you in the things of her kingdom. For I tell you truly, you will be every night the guests of the kingdom of your Heavenly Father, if you do his commandments. And when you wake up upon the morrow, you will feel in you the power of the unknown angels. And your Heavenly Father will send them to you every night, that they may build your spirit, even as every day the Earthly Mother sends you her angels, that they may build your body. For I tell you truly, if in the daytime your Earthly Mother folds you in her arms, and in the night the Heavenly Father breathes his kiss upon you, then will the Sons of Men become the Sons of God.”

As the text says, various spiritual beings (or your own Being) can instruct and teach in your dreams. Therefore, when waking, don’t move at all, but rather, try to remember your dreams: what you saw, where you were, what was happening, and so on. See how it fits within the context of your life, and try to use it to help with your daily spiritual practice in general.

Learning During Sleep — Essene Gospel of Peace

  • Inspiring to be laboring in the day with the angels of the Earthly Mother and in the night to be instructed by the angels of the Heavenly Father. I remember this passage standing out as a way to remember dreams. Now it stands out as a way to give oneself to the labors of the day without holding back.

  • Fantastic script definitely helps in striving for the goal of being aware
During the day and obeying our earthly mothers laws, then by doing this our Heavenly Father will grant us teachings by his angels in the night, what a wonderful opportunity we have,
    Thank you.

  • This is so beautifully written – a great reminder of what happens when we put some effort into our daily practices and when we go to sleep.

  • It shows me how much we should love our work, give it the respect it requires to thrive and become our main focus. Such a gentle and encouraging verse. I will read it many more times.

  • This is really beautiful. It reminds you that your existence is more than merely physical. It reminds you that we can access so much if we only open ourselves to it.
Thanks so much for sharing this treasure. ☺

  • Thanks for this manuscript, it reminds me that we are never alone and always have guidance to help us through the hard and difficult times, even in our dreams. I sense that we are taught so much in our dreams.

  • This is a really inspiring manuscript very nicely written, I also have had experiences when I wake up in the morning knowing and having the sense that I have been given information, I find sometimes I can slowly piece together what has happened, other times it may come back to me through out the day

    Thanks for the article

  • I can’t stop coming back to this beautiful manuscript. It always gives me strength to push forward in search of my Divine Father.

I hope others will benefit from this manuscript.

Thanks again to the team, it’s very much appreciated.

  • This is such a beautiful excerpt, poetic in a way. I feel inspired now, to remember my dreams, to try to be more awake in them. Thank you.

  • This is a really amazing manuscript. Remembering dreams is pretty important. It’s also really interesting how it mentions both the Mother and the Father – Masculine and Feminine.
    Thanks for posting this.

  • I found this to be true. Very much tells of my experiences with things waking up in the morning, waking up in dreams, and being awake while falling asleep.

  • A great excerpt – I think I’ll have to read through the Gospel of Peace, because I find the different parts that you’ve posted from it really moving.

Sometimes I’ve woken from sleep and had a distinct sense that I’ve been taught something or given some sort of help that is quite tangible which stays with me into the day. Unknown angels is a beautiful way of putting it!

And I’ll have to remember not to stay idly in bed after remembering my dreams!
